Will Mitra Start free
Will karo, tension mat lo

A friend for the will you keep putting off.

Write a will the way Mumbai advocates draft them: every flat, account and locker recited by paragraph, every gift tied back to it, and a clear plan if someone you name dies before you. It takes about 20 minutes. Sign it with two witnesses and you're done.

W I L L

I, Mrs. Meera Anil Deshpande, aged 58 years, Hindu, Indian Inhabitant, residing at Mulund West, Mumbai, declare this Will to be my last will and testament and I do hereby revoke all my earlier Wills, Codicils and Testamentary dispositions.

How it works

From first question to signed will

Step 1 · 5 min

Tell us about you

Name, address, PAN, whether you live in India or abroad, and your family members.

Step 2 · 10 min

List what you own

Flats with share certificate numbers, bank accounts, lockers, demat accounts, policies, jewellery and your share in a firm.

Step 3 · 5 min

Decide who gets what

Pick beneficiaries and ratios for each asset, cash gifts, the residue, executors and what happens if someone dies before you.

Step 4 · one sitting

Sign with two witnesses

Print, sign every page, and have two witnesses who receive nothing under the will attest it together.

Will builder

Write your will here

The form starts with an example family so you can see how a finished will reads. Replace it with your own details, or clear it and start fresh. Your draft stays in this browser only.

Use PAN or passport. Avoid writing your full Aadhaar number in a will, since copies circulate widely after death.

The law, briefly

What makes a will valid in India

A will needs no stamp paper. It needs to be executed correctly. Every Will Mitra will is built around these rules.

Indian Succession Act · s. 59

Who can make one

Any adult of sound mind. A will made under fraud, coercion or undue influence is void.

s. 63

How it is signed

You sign it, and two witnesses each see you sign and sign it themselves in your presence.

s. 67

Who should not witness

A beneficiary or a beneficiary's spouse. The will stays valid, but their gift fails.

Registration Act · s. 18

Registration is optional

An unregistered will is fully valid. Registering it with the Sub-Registrar makes it harder to dispute.

s. 70

You can change it any time

Make a new will or a codicil. A later will that revokes the earlier ones replaces them.

ss. 57 & 213

Probate in Mumbai

For wills of Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, Buddhists and Parsis made in Mumbai, or dealing with immovable property there, the executor needs probate from the High Court before acting.

Questions

Before you begin

Is an online will legally valid?

Yes, once you print it and sign it with two witnesses as Section 63 requires. India does not yet recognise purely electronic signatures on wills, so the signed paper copy is the will.

Do I need stamp paper?

No. A will attracts no stamp duty and can be written on plain paper.

I own only part of a flat. What do I write?

Enter your percentage share. The will then recites that you own that undivided share, and passes only that share. If you inherited part of it from a parent or spouse who died without a will, add that share to your own before you enter the figure.

What about nominees on my bank and demat accounts?

A nominee generally holds the money for your legal heirs. Your will decides who finally owns it, so list those accounts in your will too.

I live abroad. Can I make a will for my property in India?

Yes. Choose "Non Resident Indian" and tick the foreign-will box. The will then covers only your Indian assets and leaves your foreign will untouched.

Should I register my will?

It is optional. Registration creates a public record of the date and your identity, which helps if someone later disputes the will.
